Embracing Longer Days & Overcoming a Persistent Cold

The arrival of Daylight Saving Time is always a welcome change, isn’t it? While we may have “lost an hour” today, the promise of longer, brighter evenings truly lifts the spirit. There’s a particular joy that comes with seeing the sun still setting gracefully over the lake as I busy myself preparing dinner. It signals a shift away from the dark, early evenings that can sometimes feel restrictive, bringing with it a renewed sense of energy and the simple pleasure of more daylight hours to enjoy. This extended light profoundly impacts not just our daily routines but also our overall mood and well-being, inviting us to spend more time outdoors or simply savor the natural light filtering into our homes.

It’s true that things have been a little quieter here on the blog this past week, and for good reason. My husband, Ed, and I recently traveled to celebrate our younger daughter’s birthday, spending cherished time with her sister, son-in-law, and our wonderful granddaughter. While the visit was filled with laughter and precious family moments, we regrettably brought home an unwanted guest: a tenacious head cold. I was the first to succumb, and now Ed is battling it too. It’s certainly no fun, but I want to reassure everyone that it’s just a regular, albeit rather awful, cold – not the Coronavirus, thankfully. Its persistence has made creative endeavors and blogging a bit challenging, underscoring the importance of rest and recovery. Despite the sniffles and coughs, the warmth of family connection still shines through, a reminder of what truly matters.

Our family gathering was not only a celebration but also a delightful display of impromptu style coordination! From cheerful pinks to serene teals, it seemed we were all unconsciously color-coordinating throughout the entire weekend. It’s those small, unexpected details that often add an extra layer of charm to family events, creating beautiful memories and photographs that we’ll cherish for years to come. Such moments remind me that style isn’t just about decor; it’s woven into the fabric of our lives, even in the most casual and joyful settings.

Your Inspiration: My Driving Force Behind the Blog

When I reflect on what truly inspires the content I share on this blog each week, the answer is unequivocally clear: it’s you, my wonderful readers! Your engagement, thoughtful comments, and invaluable feedback are the true engine behind every post. I was absolutely thrilled by the overwhelmingly positive response to the video tour of my home that I posted last week. It seems to have been a genuine hit, and knowing how much you enjoyed it fills me with immense satisfaction. This positive reception has truly motivated me to create even more video content in the future, offering you a deeper, more immersive look into my home, my creative process, and perhaps even some behind-the-scenes glimpses of upcoming projects. Your enthusiasm is a powerful reminder that connecting with you is at the heart of what I do.

Many of you also shared how much you enjoyed hearing my voice in the video. This feedback resonated deeply, as I believe the human voice adds a unique and personal dimension to sharing stories and ideas. It creates a more intimate connection, allowing you to feel more present in my home and my creative journey. This reminded me of another instance where my voice made an appearance: last summer, when Bona refinished the beautiful hardwood flooring in my kitchen and living room. They produced a professional video documenting the transformation. While the video wasn’t quite ready when I first published the accompanying blog post, I was able to update it a few weeks later. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, there’s a short interview with me embedded midway through the post where I discuss the flooring project and its impact on our home. You can find it right here: Bona Flooring Interview With Me. I encourage you to check it out not just for the interview, but also to witness the stunning before-and-after transformation of our floors.

Exploring Unique Lifestyles

Would you be able to live like this? This intriguing question often pops into my mind when I encounter homes or lifestyles that challenge conventional norms. Whether it’s a minimalist approach, an off-grid cabin, or an incredibly compact urban dwelling, these examples push the boundaries of what we consider “home.” They prompt us to reflect on our own needs, desires, and the essence of living comfortably and intentionally. Sometimes, the most profound inspiration comes from imagining ourselves in radically different circumstances, sparking new ideas for simplifying, organizing, or just appreciating our current spaces.

That’s why I found the best guide for how to choose the right white paint to be an absolute game-changer. Personalized Touches for Spring

Want to personalize a pillow, a tote bag, or perhaps a decorative towel? This fantastic post shows just how doable and rewarding it can be to add custom monograms and unique touches to various items around your home and for your personal style. With spring just around the corner – only 11 days away, in fact! – I’m already envisioning making a few of these delightful projects. There’s something incredibly satisfying about creating something that truly reflects your personality or celebrates a loved one. Personalized items also make thoughtful, handcrafted gifts, adding a touch of warmth and individuality to any space or outfit. Get ready to embrace your inner DIY artisan!

Budget-Friendly Decor: The Dollar Store Wreath

Who doesn’t love a good budget decor hack? You may be running to the dollar store after seeing this! Here’s a brilliant idea for crafting a boxwood wreath for just $3. It’s incredible what you can achieve with a little creativity and minimal expense. A simple wreath can instantly elevate an entryway, add charm to a gallery wall, or bring a touch of natural elegance to any room. This project proves that beautiful home decor doesn’t have to break the bank. It’s all about finding clever ways to transform inexpensive materials into stylish accents that reflect your personal taste.

The Art of Creative Repurposing

When it comes to transforming old into new, some individuals possess an extraordinary knack for seeing potential where others see only discard. She is the master of creative repurposing, turning forgotten items into functional and beautiful pieces for the home. This approach to decor is not only sustainable and environmentally friendly but also injects character and a unique story into your living space. Imagine an old wooden crate becoming a stylish storage solution, a vintage suitcase transforming into a charming side table, or antique silverware being repurposed into a stunning piece of wall art. The possibilities are truly endless when you look at objects with a repurposer’s eye, and her ideas are a fantastic source of inspiration for anyone eager to embrace this art form.

Elevating Everyday Items with a Cloche

Discovering simple ways to elevate everyday items can make a huge difference in how your home feels and looks. Having one of these (a versatile glass cloche or bell jar) elevates even the simplest item into a captivating display. I personally love using it on top of a cake plate on my kitchen counter. Underneath, I might place seasonal fruit, a small collection of decorative pebbles, a single beautiful bloom, or even a cherished figurine. The cloche protects the item while simultaneously drawing attention to it, turning it into a focal point. It adds a touch of elegance, sophistication, and a hint of a curated, museum-like quality to your everyday surroundings. It’s a wonderful styling trick that works in any room, from the kitchen to the living room or even a bedroom vanity.

Spring Wardrobe Refresh: Casual & Colorful Tops

As spring rapidly approaches, my thoughts naturally turn to refreshing my wardrobe with lighter, brighter pieces. I’m currently on the hunt for a few cute, casual short-sleeve tops that are perfect for the warmer weather. I have a particular fondness for wearing pink and blue shirts; these colors not only complement my hair beautifully but also bring a cheerful, refreshing vibe to my look. There’s a certain nostalgia associated with certain styles, and this particular top instantly reminds me of a beloved shirt I owned and wore constantly back in the fabulous 80s. It’s amazing how fashion cycles and how certain pieces can evoke such fond memories. Finding new pieces that blend comfort, style, and a touch of personal history is always a delightful pursuit.
