Weekly Style Scouting: Family Joys, Spring Challenges, and Endless Inspiration

Welcome back to another edition of Style Scouting, your weekly dose of personal updates, insightful observations, and a curated collection of inspiring finds from across the web. It’s a joy to connect with you here, sharing snippets of my life and the wonderful things that have recently captured my attention and sparked my creativity. Let’s dive into what’s been happening!

This past week has been a whirlwind, yet filled with moments to cherish. Ed and I recently spent a beautiful extended weekend in Charlottesville, celebrating a very special occasion: our granddaughter Zoe’s second birthday! Her energy and laughter filled our days, creating precious memories that we will hold dear. We made sure to maximize every moment, knowing that significant changes are on the horizon for our family.

The bittersweet news is that Zoe and her wonderful parents – my daughter, Kelly, and my son-in-law – will be embarking on a new adventure, moving all the way to California this June. While we are incredibly excited for their new chapter, the thought of them being so far away brings a pang of sadness. Currently, it’s a manageable seven-hour car ride to visit them, allowing for spontaneous weekend trips. After June, however, our visits will necessitate flights, a reminder of the distance that will separate us. Nevertheless, we are already brainstorming exciting ways to stay connected and plan future visits.

To make the transition a little easier, and to create another unforgettable family experience, we’re already envisioning a unique cross-country adventure. In the fall, Ed and I plan to rent an RV and embark on a leisurely road trip across the country to California. This journey won’t just be about reaching our destination; it will be a nostalgic trip down memory lane, allowing us to reminisce about our very first cross-country trip to California when we met. We look forward to exploring new sights, revisiting old favorites, and creating new stories together, making the journey as memorable as the destination.

As spring officially settles in, the weather has offered its characteristic mix of delights and challenges. For a brief, glorious period, the air was warm and inviting, perfect for flinging open windows and letting the fresh breezes flow through our home. There’s nothing quite like that feeling of welcoming the new season indoors, airing out the house after winter, and enjoying the natural ambiance. This delightful interlude, however, was unfortunately short-lived – at least where the “fresh air” was concerned.

We soon had to close our windows, succumbing to the undeniable arrival of pollen season. And not just any pollen season, but an extreme one! It seems to have descended upon us with full force, coating everything in a tell-tale yellow-green dust. The visual impact is quite striking; if you look towards the horizon, it almost appears as though smoke hangs in the sky, obscuring the views in every direction. It settles on every outdoor surface – our patio furniture, the cars, the porch railings – and even finds its way indoors. I’ve found it in my eyes, clinging to my computer keyboard, dusting my shoes, and forming a distinct line along the lake shore. It’s a powerful reminder of nature’s relentless cycle, even if it does make us sneeze!

This pervasive yellow blanket has appeared in just a few days, making its presence known far and wide. It makes you wonder, do you experience such extreme pollen levels where you live? It certainly changes the dynamics of enjoying the outdoors in spring!
