Chic Comfort for Guest Room One

Elevating Guest Room Style: A Deep Dive into Wallpaper Selection and Design

As the summer months unfurl, bringing with them a renewed sense of energy and inspiration, my home project list is brimming with exciting transformations. Following up on my recent post, where I hinted at the ambitious plans ahead, I’m thrilled to unveil the second major undertaking of the season: a stylish and thoughtful addition to what I affectionately refer to as our “pretty guest room.” This project promises to inject personality and sophistication into a space designed for comfort and hospitality.

For those new to my corner of the internet, my husband and I are enjoying the tranquility of an empty nest in our spacious four-bedroom home. With just the two of us, our primary bedroom serves our daily needs. The remaining three bedrooms are strategically utilized to maximize our home’s functionality and comfort for visitors. Two of these are dedicated guest rooms, each with its own distinct charm, while the fourth has been transformed into a dynamic fitness and game room, perfect for active pursuits or a friendly competitive match.

Crafting Welcoming Spaces: Our Approach to Guest Room Design

When we first embarked on the journey of decorating our two dedicated guest rooms, my vision was to create distinct atmospheres that would appeal to varying tastes. One room was meticulously designed with a softer, more feminine aesthetic, while the other embraced a masculine sensibility. This intentional differentiation allowed us to offer our guests a choice that best suited their preferences and ensured every visit felt uniquely personal and comfortable.

The more feminine room, initially adorned with a vibrant mix of cheery colors when we first moved in, underwent a delightful evolution last year. I transitioned its palette to a more serene, neutral base, enlivening it with a bold pop of chartreuse during the warmer months. This strategic use of color ensures the room feels fresh and inviting throughout spring and summer. As the crisp air of fall arrives, signaling the onset of colder months, the bedding is lovingly swapped for cozy red plaid, instantly transforming the room into a warm, inviting sanctuary. This seasonal adaptability ensures the room always feels current and comforting.

Conversely, our blue, more masculine guest room, featuring a generous king-size bed, tends to be the preferred choice for family and friends who visit. Its spaciousness and robust design elements provide a different kind of comfort, catering beautifully to couples or individuals desiring a larger sleeping arrangement.

Despite the masculine room’s practical advantages, I hold a special fondness for the more feminine guest room. It houses a comfortable queen-size bed, but its true allure lies in its unparalleled view of the lake, arguably the best in the entire house. Waking up to the shimmering water and serene landscape is an experience I love offering to our guests, making it a truly “pretty” and sought-after retreat.

Unveiling the “Pretty” Guest Room’s Next Chapter: The Power of Pattern

After last year’s refreshing color updates in the pretty guest room, I deliberately left the most prominent wall—the one behind the bed—unadorned. It remained a pristine canvas of white paint, awaiting the perfect design element to complete its aesthetic story. While I initially toyed with the idea of introducing a bold accent color through paint, I soon realized the room yearned for something more intricate, something that would provide depth and visual intrigue beyond a simple block of color. The beige upholstered headboard, a key feature of the room, called for a complementary pattern to elevate its presence and create a more cohesive, layered look.

This is where Love vs. Design enters the scene – an innovative online wallpaper company that has truly revolutionized how homeowners approach wall decor. What sets them apart is their unique specialization in creating customized color wallpapers, ensuring a perfect match for any existing decor scheme. Their platform liberates designers and DIY enthusiasts alike from the constraints of limited colorways, opening up a world of personalized possibilities.

The journey began with the delightful task of selecting a few patterns and colors that resonated with my vision. Love vs. Design’s ingenious “See It in Your Space” feature proved to be an invaluable tool during this preliminary phase. This interactive visualization technology allowed me to virtually apply my chosen patterns to a photo of my actual room, providing an incredibly realistic preview of how the pattern, color, and repeat size would integrate with the existing furniture and lighting. This crucial step eliminated much of the guesswork and anxiety typically associated with wallpaper selection, empowering me to make confident, informed decisions.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Love vs. Design’s offerings is the unparalleled freedom to select any combination of colors across their extensive catalog of hundreds of styles and patterns. This level of customization is a game-changer for interior design enthusiasts. It’s an incredibly enjoyable and intuitive process to customize the paper, ensuring it harmonizes impeccably with your existing room decor, creating a truly bespoke and perfectly coordinated space. No more compromising on color; your vision can now be brought to life with precision.

For my project, I opted for the convenient and DIY-friendly peel and stick wallpaper. This modern innovation offers a fantastic solution for those who appreciate flexibility and ease of application, making it ideal for accent walls or spaces where you might wish to change your decor more frequently. However, Love vs. Design also caters to those who prefer a more traditional and permanent solution, offering their patterns printed on Glissade, a durable, classic style of wallpaper that promises longevity and a refined finish.

As I touched upon earlier, my initial foray into pattern selection involved experimenting with a spirited chartreuse color. While I genuinely admired its vivacity and the fresh energy it brought to the room, a crucial design consideration soon became apparent. The vibrant green, though appealing, presented a potential conflict with the seasonal bedding changes I implement. The room’s winter transformation, which includes swapping for a cozy dark red/brown plaid bedding to ramp up the comfort, would not seamlessly integrate with the chartreuse wallpaper. This realization prompted a strategic pivot in my design direction.

With seasonal versatility in mind, I decided to shift my focus entirely to neutral patterns. Neutrals offer a timeless elegance and a foundational flexibility that allows for effortless changes in bedding, accessories, and accent colors throughout the year, without ever clashing with the primary wall treatment. This approach ensures the guest room remains sophisticated and welcoming, regardless of the season or the specific decorative elements I choose to introduce.

While the allure of wallpapering the entire room is tempting, I will most likely opt to install the wallpaper solely on the wall behind the bed. This strategic placement will create a captivating accent wall, effectively drawing the eye and serving as a focal point. An accent wall is a brilliant way to infuse a significant dose of style and personality into a space without overwhelming it, providing a tasteful backdrop that enhances the room’s overall aesthetic and offers an infusion of sophisticated charm.

My final selection encompassed seven distinct patterns, all rendered in three exquisite shades of beige: Wheat, a warm and inviting tone; Luster, which offers a subtle sheen and depth; and Shell, a delicate, almost ethereal hue. Each shade brings its own character, allowing for nuanced layering and visual interest within the neutral palette.

The truly exhilarating phase was seeing how each of these carefully chosen patterns would come to life on the wall, thanks once again to Love vs. Design’s intuitive “See It in Your Space” interface. This innovative feature transformed the daunting task of visualization into an enjoyable and highly effective part of the decision-making process, allowing me to truly “live” with each option before committing.

Another strong contender is “Patterned Fronds” in the Wheat color. Returning to a timeless aesthetic, “Watercolor Gingham” offers a delightful, soft interpretation of a classic check pattern. This pattern would lend a cozy yet refined feel to the guest room, perfect for creating an inviting atmosphere.

Finally, “Windowpane Plaid” stands as a testament to understated sophistication. Its clean, intersecting lines offer a tailored and classic look that would bring structure and a touch of traditional elegance to the room without being overpowering. Should I decide to wallpaper all the walls instead of just an accent, I would most likely gravitate towards one of these more subtle patterns, ensuring the overall effect remains serene and cohesive.

And so, the delightful dilemma continues. Decorating, at its heart, is a series of decisions – each choice shaping the essence of a space. While the process can sometimes feel overwhelming, tools like Love vs. Design simplify the journey significantly. Their customizable options and visualization features truly make choosing the perfect wallpaper not just easier, but an incredibly engaging and fun experience. The right pattern is waiting, and I am excited to see which one ultimately brings the “pretty guest room” to its full potential.
