Note how they are connected (usually black to black, white to white, and a bare copper or green wire for ground). Gently untwist the wire nuts and pull the wires apart. You will then be left with exposed wires hanging from the electrical box.

3. Wire the New Fixture: Carefully thread the wires from the ceiling through the center hole in the top of your new fixture’s mounting bracket.
