2. Prime for Perfection: Before applying any paint, use a tack cloth to meticulously wipe down the entire surface. Please, resist this urge! This paint is uniquely formulated with Glidden’s innovative Gel-Flow Technology, specifically designed to eliminate drips and brush marks. Its inherent thickness is a feature, not a flaw. In fact, you should barely stir it – a gentle stroke or two in the can is all that’s needed. This remarkable paint is engineered to self-level, meaning any brush marks visible during application will miraculously disappear as it dries, leaving behind a perfectly smooth, unblemished surface. Beyond its self-leveling properties, it’s also incredibly durable and comes in a range of rich colors, including White, Antique White, Classic Red, Linen Canvas, Rich Navy, National Red, Traditional Brown, and Deepest Black.

3. Applying the First Coat: Dip your high-quality angled paintbrush into the can. Remember, this paint is unlike any other you’ve used – it’s thick! If it appears separated, stir gently just until it’s re-mixed. As you begin to brush the paint onto the surface, you’ll notice it will thin out and start to self-level. Apply the paint evenly, working to cover the surface smoothly. While a brush offers excellent control for detailed work, you can also use a high-quality foam or microfiber roller for larger flat areas, ensuring a consistent application.

4. Technique for a Smooth Finish: Focus on brushing until the paint finish appears smooth and even across the surface. However, it’s crucial not to “overwork” the paint. Excessive brushing can disrupt the self-leveling process and introduce unwanted texture. Apply, smooth, and then move on. Trust the Gel-Flow technology to do its job as the paint dries.

5. Drying Time & Ventilation: Be aware that this paint does have a distinct odor during application and as it dries. Ensure good ventilation in your workspace by opening windows or using fans. It will typically take about 4-6 hours to dry to the touch, 8 hours before it can be handled safely, and ideally overnight (or at least 24 hours) before applying a second coat. Patience is a virtue when working with high-gloss finishes.

6. Second Coat for Durability and Depth: For optimal durability and a deeper, richer gloss, I recommend applying two coats of paint. I allowed a full 24 hours for the first coat to cure thoroughly before proceeding with the second. This extended drying time between coats contributes significantly to the final hardness and mirror-like quality of the finish.

Upon full extension, the doors didn’t quite cover the entire door opening, leaving a small, approximately 2-inch gap. To address this and add a touch of industrial flair, I installed an industrial-style pull along the very edge of the last door panel. This strategic placement, rather than on the front or back, allows for effortless opening and closing from both sides of the doorway with a single, centrally located pull, providing both functionality and a contemporary aesthetic.
