Christmas Table Setting + Log Tea Light Centerpiece

Christmas Table Setting + Log Tea Light Centerpiece

How to make a multi-candle glittered log to use as a holiday table setting centerpiece.

Over the weekend I put the finishing touches on my Christmas table setting. I enjoy setting tables for entertaining – simple, nothing elaborate, but always festive.

I use white dishes, but change the items I use with them every year. This year I used touches of turquoise, greenery, and glitter. Don’t miss how I decorated the table in past year’s Christmas dinner table setting and How to Make Snowflake Placemats.

If you read my Favorite Things post a few weeks ago, you may remember that I wrote that the holidays would not be the same for my family without the music of Andy Williams playing in the background. I used the sheet music from one of his most popular songs – It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

I made a copy to use as the place mat for each place setting on 8 x 14 paper at my local copy shop.

and then deckled the edges. The deckled edge makes it appear like the sheet music is from an old book- not just copy paper.

It is very easy to do with a deckle edge ruler. You can buy one for under $10 at any craft store or on Amazon.

The one I have is 12-inches long and is 2 sided – each side will create a different size deckle.

Choose what size deckle you want and line that side up along the edge of the paper. The larger the excess of paper that you will be removing – the easier it is to pull the paper against the ruler.

Since the music was pretty close to the edges of the 8 x 11 sheet, I only had a little bit to rip off. Pull the paper down and against the ruler to deckle. If the ruler is not as long as your paper –just do a section at a time until the entire edge is deckled.

The rest of the items I used to decorate the table are things from my yard, crafts cabinet, and classic ball ornaments.

I tied paper ribbon to the top of the ornament and simply wrote the name of my guests on the ribbon with a marker. I snipped the ends with scissors and tucked a sprig of greenery into the knot on the ribbon.

I found the turquoise ornaments at Michaels, but wanted them to look lighter in color and a bit more old-fashioned. I glittered them in the same way I did the glass trees along the mantel that I posted about last week.

I found a nice straight tree branch in my yard after Hurricane Sandy. I evenly spaced and made 12 marks along one side and had Ed drill the holes using a wide drill bit for tea lights to fit in.

It needed some sparkle, so I sprayed glue all over it and sprinkled it with glitter.

My favorite Kosta Boda candle holders make it to the table every Christmas. I place one at each place setting. Like the white plates – they go with everything.

Aside from the cooking, decorating the house for Christmas is pretty much ready to go. My daughters are both home and I am looking forward to baking some more cookies and just hanging out with them today.
