Easy to Make Christmas Taper Candle Rings

Easy to Make Christmas Taper Candle Rings

If you are in the midst of planning how you would like to festively decorate your home for the holidays without too much fuss this year, I have a quick Christmas decorating idea for you.

This idea uses something most of already own – taper candle holders. With the addition of a few Christmas ornaments and faux evergreen garland ties you can style even the most basic taper candle holder into stylish holiday decor.

silver and glass candle stick holders without candle rings

Every year around this time, I start to bring out the bins of Christmas decor I have stashed in my attic to determine what decorations I want to use to decorate my home.

Once I have the contents all out in front of me, I look at each item, decide if I want to use it and then try to come up with a way to style the items differently from past years so they don’t get tired looking.

Two candlestick holders with glass bobeches or candle rings on them to catch candle drips.

One thing I unearthed in a bin were 3 glass candle bobèches. “A what” you may be saying to yourself? On a candlestick, a bobèche forms a dish-like ring to catch drips of wax. I like the 3 I have, but they are mostly invisible.

I always use these candle holders in my holiday decor, but wanted to create something on the candle holders that would have more of a decorative impact.

The word, bobèche can also refer to an ornamental element made out of basically anything that takes the same form.

That’s what I did, I made ornamental elements (literally) for a collection of candlestick holders I have.

Tall silver candlestick holder and white candle. The Christmas candle ring is made using small silver ornaments and a garland tie.

2. Place candle into the candle holder. Wrap the ornament-filled garland tie around the top of the candle holder and pull the ends together as tightly as you can. Then twist the ends like you would a bread bag tie. Cut the excess with wire cutters or simply fold the cut ends under the garland tie.

3. If needed, using your fingers gently arrange the ornament spacing.

Christmas Candle Ring Variations to Try

If you don’t have any ball ornaments, use jingle bells, buttons, or beads to festively decorate your candle holders.

I tied 3 jingle bells together with narrow red velvet ribbon.

Silver candle holder with a white candle with a faux greenery garland tie, jingle bell and red ribbon made into a taper candle ring.

Next I twisted the ends of the garland tie together to secure it on top of the candle holder. I moved the garland so that the jingle bells were off-center on the candle holder.

I found this brown covered wire garland with tiny jingle bells at Hobby Lobby. It didn’t work well as a collar for the candle holder, but it looked OK under the top section.

Bobèches, candle rings, candle collars or whatever you like to call them can be made in many different ways. I showed you what I created using items I owned, but if you don’t have garland ties, maybe you have large twist or cable ties or florist wire.

The best part of doing this holiday decorating idea is that you can have fun styling your candle holders differently this year to fit your decorating style and color theme.
